Dermatological Surgery

Surgical precision with the utmost respect for your skin

Diagnosis and surgical treatment of skin lesions under local anaesthesia, always aiming for maximum safety and the best functional and aesthetic outcome.

What is dermatological surgery

Dermatological surgery is a subspecialty of dermatology that allows lesions to be diagnosed histologically and treated through surgical procedures under local anaesthesia.

Beyond removing benign lesions, it is one of the pillars of skin cancer treatment: it removes the tumour completely while preserving function and aesthetic outcome as much as possible.

Every procedure is planned individually, taking into account the type of lesion, its location, its size and each person’s characteristics.

Our approach

Dermatological surgery with the precision of specialisation and the calm of experience

Every procedure begins with an accurate diagnosis and careful planning to choose the most suitable surgical and reconstructive technique. We aim for maximum oncological safety when dealing with skin cancer, while also pursuing the best possible functional and aesthetic result.

To achieve this, we assess the skin’s tension lines, the anatomy of the area, tissue quality and your expectations. Procedures are carried out at Hospital Quirón, an environment that guarantees maximum safety and allows for personalised treatment and close follow-up during recovery.

What we do

Treatments

01
Removal of benign skin lesions
Surgical removal of moles, cysts or lipomas, with follow-up analysis.
Surgical treatment of lesions such as naevi (moles), epidermoid cysts, lipomas or other benign lesions when there is a medical, functional or aesthetic indication. Whenever a lesion is removed due to diagnostic suspicion or clinical judgement, it is sent for pathological analysis.
02
Skin cancer surgery
Surgical treatment following clinical guidelines, tailored to each tumour.
Surgical treatment of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma and other skin tumours, following clinical guidelines and adapting the approach to each case.
03
Mohs surgery
Maximum oncological safety while preserving healthy tissue.
A specialised micrographic technique, indicated for certain more complex skin cancers — particularly those located in areas of high functional or aesthetic value such as the face, neck and scalp, recurrent tumours, or those with poorly defined margins. It allows 100% of the surgical margins to be examined during the procedure, maximising the chance of complete removal while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.
04
Reconstruction after skin surgery
Tailored reconstruction to protect function and appearance.
After removing a lesion, we plan the reconstruction individually, using the most suitable technique for each case, with the aim of preserving function and achieving the best aesthetic result.
05
Earlobe reconstruction
Repairs torn or stretched earlobes and restores their shape.
Surgical correction of earlobes torn or stretched by earrings, trauma or piercings, to restore their anatomy and, where possible, allow earrings to be worn again once healing is complete.
06
Scar revision
A tailored plan to improve scars of different origins.
Individual assessment of surgical, traumatic or other lesion-related scars to choose the best option, which may include surgery, laser or other complementary treatments depending on the case.
How we work

What the process looks like

01
We assess and explain.
The first consultation includes a clinical assessment of the lesion and a detailed explanation of the diagnosis and treatment options.
02
We plan the procedure.
When there is a surgical indication, we plan it according to the type of lesion, its location and the most suitable reconstructive procedure.
03
We look after your recovery.
After surgery, we carry out the dressings and check-ups needed until proper healing is complete. If the lesion requires pathological analysis, we review the results with you at the consultation and explain the recommended follow-up.
What our patients say

Peace of mind before, during and after

I’m absolutely delighted with the laser treatment Dr. Anna Sánchez Puigdollers gave me for the scar left after surgery for a basal cell carcinoma on my face. I was really worried about how the scar would look, but from the very first moment she gave me so much confidence and reassurance about the treatment. The result has been incredible: in just 3 sessions the improvement was dramatic, and after 6 months the scar is barely visible at all! Beyond the excellent result, I want to highlight how warm she is as a doctor: caring, attentive, approachable and extremely effective. I recommend her 100%.— Laura —
I’m delighted with Dr. Anna’s care. She’s a very approachable, professional and efficient dermatologist. She has always solved any issue very quickly, especially with my mole checks and removals. The confidence she inspires and the way she treats patients make her someone I always recommend.— Oriol —
Honestly, I’m thrilled with the experience. From my very first visit they made me feel completely at ease, and I immediately clicked with the team. They’re approachable, they explain everything clearly, and you can tell they genuinely care about you. On top of that, I’m very happy with the result, which in the end is what matters most. I’ll definitely be back, and I recommend her wholeheartedly.— Gemma —
Answering your questions

Frequently asked questions

What type of anaesthesia is used for the surgery?
The vast majority of dermatological surgery procedures are performed under local anaesthesia, without the need to put the patient to sleep, allowing for a quick recovery and same-day discharge.
Will the surgery leave a scar?
Every surgical procedure leaves a scar, and our job is to make it as discreet as possible through careful planning of the incision, a precise technique and good follow-up during healing.
Is the lesion analysed after it’s removed?
Whenever there is a diagnostic or clinical indication, the surgical specimen is sent to the pathology laboratory to confirm the diagnosis and check that the treatment chosen was the right one.
How long does recovery take?
It depends on the type of procedure and its location. In most cases, you can resume your usual activities within a few days, following the postoperative recommendations to support proper healing.
What are the advantages of Mohs surgery over conventional surgery?
It allows all of the tumour’s margins to be examined during the procedure, with very high cure rates in selected tumours while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. Whether it’s indicated depends on the type of tumour, its location and other clinical characteristics.
